Dit is zo’n beetje hoe men momenteel het politieke klimaat hier, maar ook country wide, ervaart. “Throw the bums out” is langs de snelwegen een veel gebezigde kreet op de diverse ‘reklame’ borden. En begrijpbaar als je het onderstaande relaas tot je neemt.

The Los Angeles Times published an internal email from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger: "Bottom line: Remote rural state parks will likely run out of toilet paper by early October." Here we all thought that the inevitable lack of toilet tissue when you enter a state park or beach lavatory happened no matter what the state’s credit worthiness was.

Immers, recycling betekent dat de materialen weer in de samenleving terecht komen, en wellicht in een andere vorm, dus nog gevaaarlijker!
The impasse has lasted for 85 days into the new fiscal year, almost three months without a budget and the money to pay a fair number of the state debts. Here who is unfairly impacted: thousands of small and large business who are suppliers for things as mundane as the aforementioned toilet paper, printing services, food suppliers to prisons and operators of state health clinics.
One of the hardest hit groups are landlords of state offices. Without a budget there is no money available for lease payments. Next to feel the pinch, will be contractors on current highway projects if a new budget is not passed in Sacramento.
Het is natuurlijk waanzin dat volwassen mensen niet tot een aanvaardbaar budget kunnen komen; dat gaat grofweg zo’n $52 miljoen dollars per dag kosten aan rente, etc. Uiteindelijk gaat dat dadelijk weer bespaard worden op onderwijs en andere vitale onderdelen van de maatschappij. Schande!
Maar goed, om met een collega van mij te spreken, wat indien wie gouverneur wordt:
*Geen toiletpapier, veeg je billen maar aan het gras af (The Jerry Brown Solution)
*Gigantische hoeveelheden toiletpapier maar geen Mexicanen of andere buitenlanders om het te distribueren (The Meg Whitman solution)
*BYOTP (The Peter Laanen solution; Laanen for Governor)
