De Val

Na de val van de Berlijnse Muur, en wederom de val van een Balkenende kabinet, nu dus de val van Kemkers (of toch Kramer?).

Interessant blijft dat de gouden medailles die ‘we’ gehaald hebben onderbelicht blijven in de Amerikaanse pers.

Wel zien we dan een grote foto van de ‘bronzen’ Amerikaan en verderop in het verhaal dat de gouden plak werd opgehaald door een ‘Dutchman’.

Maar wanneer het om drama gaat ligt dat anders, zeker in star stud Los Angeles.

Daar werd gekopt met de “Lost treasure of the Dutchman”, verwijzend naar het verloren goud van de ‘Lost Dutchman Mine’.

Het blijft natuurlijk een beetje onze tragedie dat ook in dit geval het eigenlijk om een Duitser gaat!

One legendary treasure that has led many astray and ruined many lives is the Lost Dutchman Mine, supposedly located in the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix, Arizona. As with most legends, there are many discrepancies among the various accounts. According to Helen Corbin, author of The Curse of the Dutchman’s Gold, in 1846, a man named Jacob Waltz emigrated from Wurttemberg, Germany, to the United States.

Nou ja, Herr Kemkers kan natuurlijk.

Hopelijk vergaat het hem niet zo als met de vele geruineerde levens in ‘The Curse of the Dutchman’s Gold’.

Ik schreef vorige week al dat ik er bang voor was na de val van het kabinet.

Overigens slaat dat rugnummer 9 op de schaal die aan mijn baan geplakt is, dat van Heemskerk durfde ik niet te vermelden.

Vermeldenswaardig blijft het gegeven dat wij binnenkort weer een naturalisatie ceremonie bij ‘ons’ in het Consulaat Generaal vieren.

Oftewel Amerikaanse Nederlanders die hun verloren Nederlanderschap (oftewel ‘lost treasure’) teruggewonnen hebben.

Dus toch nog gek op…Nederland, land van 1.000 meningen (klik op ‘Nederland’ met subtitles voor de Amerikaanse partners).
