Gedurende de ruim 4 jaar dat ik leider ben van het prachtige Netherlands Business Support Office in San Francisco’s Bay Area, registreerde ik tot 31 december 2011 1 (zegge een) officieele ziektedag. 2012 begon met zware verkoudheid, aanvallen op de neus waar de zakdoekenfabriek niet tegen aan kon produceren en hoestbuien die vaag aan een kliniek in Davos, Zwitserland deden denken. De oude eik was zo’n 4 dagen geveld, waarvan 2 als officieele ziektedagen golden omdat de 1e en de 2e januari als vakantiedagen in de boeken kwamen. Dit, beminde lezers, is bedoeld als intro voor een belangrijker topic, omdat ik een hekel heb aan uitingen van onbelangrijk onbehagen (snotneus, verkeerde been uit bed gestapt, lekke band, aardappelen aangebrand) in de diverse sociale media. Het zette me aan tot enige recreatie om de zinnen te verzetten:

het versneld aanvragen van een Amerikaans paspoort voor Bo-Peter en Kaj (dankzij Heer Donner in Nederland)
en wat meer aandacht te besteden aan de Republikeinse kandidaten voor het Amerikaanse Presidentschap. En van dat laatste wil je echt wel schrikken!

I just heard a popular pundit call Newt Gingrich “a bald face liar” on cable TV. This was her response to hearing sound of Newt lying to himself about why he resigned as Speaker of the House. How stupid and ill-informed does Newt think the American voters are? Why my morning began with a sound byte of Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina admitting that the plot to force the hated (sic) Speaker out of office began in Senator Graham’s office. Six hours later I watched Newt nervously spin a yarn about his disgraceful departure from the Congress and his punishment for wrong-doing in the form of a $300,000 fine. I wish a psychiatrist would come forth and explain how more than one truth of a situation can exist in that enormous head of Newton Gingrich.
Dan hebben we Santorum;
“who added $2 million to his campaign war chest in the two days since his surprise second-place finish in Iowa, faced boos at a stop in Durham as he answered questions about his position on same-sex marriage. He is a longtime opponent of gay rights, which makes him popular with many conservative voters.
But while speaking at New England College, he was challenged on his position.
Santorum, who is accustomed to questioning from students and seems to somewhat relish it, first tried arguing that there is no compelling reason to change the laws banning same-sex marriage.
“Don’t you have to make a positive argument that the law should be changed?” he asked the crowd. “You, the person who wants to do this, tell me, what is the justification? What is the public purpose?” The event ended in boos for the candidate.”
Ga even na dat deze man (Santorum) abortus zelfs afwijst indien de bevruchting plaats heeft gevonden na een verkrachting! Alleen de Taliban komt daar het dichtste bij! Santorum zou het goed doen in Afghanistan.
Mocht Obama, hetgeen de Heer (uw Heer) verhoede niet herkozen worden, dan lijkt Romney nog de meest aanvaardbare Republikeinse keuze, ook al heeft hij dan veel rechts water bij zijn wijn gedaan. Even een idee hoe hij door voornoemde heren aangepakt wordt:

Gingrich has been rampaging through New Hampshire calling Romney a "timid Massachusetts moderate." Gingrich was left embittered by his fourth-place finish in Iowa, blaming attacks from Romney and his backers.
"He even raised taxes on people who were blind," Gingrich said of Romney at a tele-town hall on Friday, referring to an attempt in Massachusetts to impose a $10 fee for receiving a certificate of blindness. 
Ja, ja, je krijgt wat meer inzicht, maar je wordt er niet vrolijker van. Dan maar terug tot de kleine geneugten des levens:
